Narrative Shift FAQ’s
We do not accept insurance. However, we are an out-of-network provider and will provide clients with a monthly insurance receipt that includes appropriate codes. Clients can submit this to their insurance for potential reimbursement.
Clients are allowed one no-show without penalty. Subsequent missed sessions without at least 24-hour notice may incur a fee equivalent to the session cost. Exceptions are made for illness or emergencies. Full details of our cancellation policy will be provided at the time of booking.
We work with adolescents (starting at age 13), young adults, and adults.
During the initial intake session, we will meet with parents or guardians first (if applicable) to gather background information without the adolescent or adult client present. This allows us to get a complete picture of the client’s needs. For adult clients, the intake session is conducted directly with the client.
Standard sessions are 55 minutes long. EMDR sessions (trauma-focused therapy) are 90 minutes to ensure sufficient time for effective outcomes.
After the initial session, therapy or coaching typically begins with weekly sessions. As progress is made, sessions may shift to bi-weekly, monthly, and eventually, services may conclude when goals are met.
We accept Zelle and Venmo. For clients with Health Savings Accounts (HSA) or Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA), we accept HSA/FSA cards as well.
In-person sessions are preferred for both therapy and coaching when working with local clients.
Online therapy is available for clients residing in California and Virginia due to state licensing regulations.
Online coaching is available for clients nationwide, including college students and out-of-state individuals.
For adolescent clients, we meet with parents first before the adolescent joins sessions. This allows us to gather key information about the adolescent’s needs without interruptions. For adult clients living at home and supported by parents, we may request parent involvement in the intake process to gather background information. However, confidentiality for adult clients is always respected.
We do not have a strict age cutoff. For example, we may still request parent input for adult clients (e.g., a 24-year-old living at home) when it is deemed beneficial for the client’s progress. Our services begin at age 13.
We offer both therapy and executive function coaching: Therapy focuses on emotional and mental well-being. Coaching emphasizes practical skills like organization, time management, and overcoming executive function challenges.
Our practice focuses on supporting the neurodivergent community. We understand that neurodivergent individuals face unique challenges that require tailored solutions. Our “Narrative Shift” framework helps clients overcome challenges like procrastination, perfectionism, and metacognition struggles by reframing their mindset and developing practical strategies.
Each client’s journey is unique, so there is no set timeline for results. Our goal is to provide consistent support and strategies to help clients progress at their own pace.
Yes, we work with college students and out-of-state clients for coaching services. Therapy services are only available to clients residing in our licensed regions of California and Virginia.
